Our extensive network in the Indian subcontinent and the Far East, such as in; Bangladesh, India, Vietnam China and Thailand has allowed us to introduce a variety of seafood. Most notably we have introduced King Prawns, Vannamei and Black Tiger Shrimps to the European market.
Today we boast more than 1000 items, ranging from our traditional seafood products to a variety of fish, poultry, dry and finger foods. Our supply chain network extends across a vast array of Europe’s largest supermarkets, wholesalers and food service companies.
What’s more, the way in which we harvest and process our product ensures a totally traceable system, ensuring our customers the highest quality products available.
Where We Began…
Seamark’s roots can be traced back to a small grocery store in Oldham, United Kingdom. The store was owned by Seamark founder Iqbal Ahmed OBE’s parents – true pioneers in ethnic food.
Iqbal soon joined the family company, followed by his two brothers Kamal and Bilal. They saw great opportunity in the town’s budding Central Asian community, which had started to grow in the early 1970s.
The business began supplying local ethnic businesses and communities with specialist seafood and produce that could not be bought or imported from any other businesses around.
This innovation and dedication to customer service set Seamark on a path that has led to the huge multinational business it is today.
40 Years Later…
Four decades of development and continuous growth has seen that small grocery store become an international leader in frozen foods.
With large factories in the UK and Bangladesh and a headquarters in Manchester, UK, the resources available to Seamark are vast. The end result is a higher quality of products and a more intimate, dedicated service for our customers. Our 100 000sq.ft processing plant in Chittagong, Bangladesh, alone has a daily output of 100 tonnes of seafood, with Seamark as a whole processing a staggering one million prawns per hour. These resources ensure we have the capacity to meet any customer demands.
Having our own fleet of trawlers, factories and state of the art cold storage facilities, we can ensure a totally traceable product line from source to fork. Furthermore, our assembly of refrigerated vehicles can transfer products to many central European locations within 24 hours.
The group’s other operations in Bangladesh include a shrimp processing line, a hatchery and its own deep sea fishing fleet. This operations is based in Cox’s Bazaar, a port town and tourist resort 150km south of Chittagong and fishes in the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal.
As a direct result of Seamark’s global exports strategy, some of the most recognisable and reliable brands in frozen food have been spawned, with Ibco, Mr Prawn, Tiger and Lilly brands among Seamark’s most popular. Many of these products make their way the world’s finest kitchens as ingredients in dishes served at the best known hotels and most revered restaurants.
Within the Seamark business group there are also sister companies; Vermilion & Cinnabar – one of Manchester’s top restaurant and bar spaces, Ibco Ltd – One of the UK’s most successful frozen food suppliers for small-medium sized businesses and Restaurant Wholesale – a popular wholesale outlet based in Manchester and London.
